My top 5 tips for making your photoshoot a success

TIP #1

What should you wear ?

Natural earth tones

My number one favourite colour palette is the beach’s sandy tones, together with neutral colors. It is perfect for a beach photo session and results in a really timeless look. Shades of beige, white and even light peach work really beautifully for beach photos. Try to stick to shades of neutral colors, rather than trying to match everyone in the exact same shade of white or beige.

Shades of pink, peach, orange and cream will complement the sunset and look quite beautiful on pictures.

TIP #1

What should you wear ?

Textures & Patterns

You can also incorporate different textures; linen and cotton, these are beautiful light fabrics that work really well together.

It’s also ok and welcome if you want to incorporate some pattern into your photoshoots! Choose one or two patterns max, depending on how many family members are in your shoot.

For everyone else, pick out outfits that complement the shades of your print.

TIP #1

What should you wear ?

Hair style, make-up & accessories

Make up and hair styles should be SIMPLE.

Hair should be off the face. Hair falling down onto the sides of the face create distracting shadows.  Eye glasses may or may not be worn. Non-reflective lenses, of course, are a big help. Don’t over accessorise! Overbearing or heavily noticeable accessories can be a major distraction.  Simple and minimal works best.

TIP #2

Where is the best spot for a beach photoshoot ?

Spot location

My preferred beach to shoot at,  is the west coast, Wolmar and Flic-en-Flac beach for it's amazing  sunset.  I have special spots for less crowded beaches. My second choice will be the north side, at  Balaclava and Trou-aux-Biches  beaches. For those residing in the east coast,  I recommend Palmar Public beach for a  morning.

TIP #1

When is the best time

for the shooting ?

Best time

My preferred time to shoot is before sunset or in early morning. The time before sunset is what we called the golden hour. The magical light is soft and flattering to the skin. Sunset time varies in Mauritius. In summer, the sun sets around 7 pm. And in winter sunset is around 5.30 pm. My second preferred time is early morning. This is for clients who are looking for radiant turquoise colour of the sea and white sand.

TIP #3

Choosing the right date during your stay

I always recommend to pick a date in the middle of your stay or earlier. In case of bad weather or for whatever reasons, there will still be some free dates for a reschedule.

TIP #4

The day before

Eat, drink, and rest

A great tip for preparing your skin (and hair) for a photo session is to keep your body happy. Make sure to eat something, drink plenty of water, and get a good night’s sleep before your session. Your body will thank you!

Shave the night before

This tip mostly applies to facial hair or if you’ll be getting detailed shots of your legs. Shaving the night before your photoshoot will reduce any redness that may come from irritated skin. However, if you’re like me and have a 5 o’clock shadow, here are some tips for minimizing redness on the day of your portraits.

TIP #5

Baby nap  !

If you booked for a family session and that you have a baby, be sure that your baby already had their nap before the photoshoot. This will gives us greatest possible chance to have them in a happy mood.

I also recommend to bring their favorite toy or food.
